Since the beginning of the nation there has been a significant difference in the way that women are treated in society, as opposed to the manner in which men are viewed. It is well known that women have had to struggle for rights that provide common functioning within society, such as the right to work, the right to a fair wage, the right to be leaders in industry and the right to be treated equally. Yet, these struggles by women have been additionally impacted by the gender roles that women are required to fulfill, which often oppose the struggle for rights of this societal group and continue to place restraints on women within society.
From the time of birth infant females are taught that their mother is the family caregiver and that she is responsible for the well being of the family. In contrast, the male father figure is often absent from the picture and provides minimal physical and psychological care for the child.
