Authorization for this report was given on December 1, 2007 by Mr. Morgan to research with Group One LLC. The research team compiled the following analysis for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Real Estate Committee.
B. Background of the Problem
The recent woes of the housing, subprime, and mortgage-backed securities markets have caused an economic crisis that stretches across all sectors of financial markets. In the early 90s subprime mortgages were used as loans to refinance or consolidate debt. Since the late 90s the subprime market has evolved into a financial machine that helped promote new home ownership.
