In Revelation by Flannery OConnor, Mrs. Turpin firmly believes that she is a good church going woman who could not possibly do anything wrong in the eyes of the Lord; however, she learns the hard way that thinking too much of ones self in such a high manner can only lead to trouble. While in a doctors waiting room with her husband, Claud, Mrs. Turpins normal day definitely takes a most unusual turn sparked by an unforeseen encounter. Mrs. Turpin, in Revelation, experiences an epiphany after being attacked by a young girl and this forces her to question her outlook on life.
Mrs. Turpin thinks highly of herself and feels that she is a good person; however, she is extremely judgmental of those around her. She sees herself as a good, happily married, God- loving, forty-seven-year old woman. Her philosophy in life is to help those in need regardless of their social status. She considers this to be the one thing to be most thankful for in her life. There is a scenario she plays out in her head where Jesus asks her if she would like to be high society with tons of money......
