Betrayal in The Jilting of Granny Weatherall Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

According to Granny Weatherall from the short story, “The Jilting of Granny Weatherall,” that feeble, 80-year-old body of hers can pick up after itself. She believes that everyone can exit the room for she is perfectly capable of attending to her own needs. It is seen that she burdens a cape of pride. This cape was knit from Granny Weatherall’s scaring experience of being jilted at the altar by her fiancé, George. She disguised her pain with excessive pride. This way no one could see her suffering. Through her pride, her references to this incident of betrayal were still visible and had set the theme of betrayal. Granny Weatherall was abandoned at the altar by her fiancé. Throughout the story, we see that she feels betrayed and is scared. She is a very stubborn and upset saying, “‘Don’t tell me what I’m going to be. I’m on my feet now, morally speaking’” (Porter 430). Admitting that she needs help she says, “‘Leave a well woman alone. I’ll call for you when I want you… Where were you forty years ago when I pulled through milkleg and double pneumonia” (Porter 430)? ......
