Introduction The concept of yield to maturity can be confusion to those that do not understand it thoroughly. New investors in the stock market should become familiar with the terminology used as well as the methods of determining how investors are paid. The amount of the bond can vary, but the timeframe, and interest amount paid at the end of the time (yield) does matter. This paper will explain the concept of yield to maturity though defining key words and phrases of both stocks and bonds as well as to give a clear example, to make transactions easier to understand. Identification of Terminology Bond Bonds are a low risk investment, when compared to stocks. A bond is a promise to repay the principle along with interest (coupons) on a specified date (maturity) (Bond, n.d.). There are some bonds do not pay interest, but all bonds require a repayment of principal. The usual issuing price of a bond is $1000. Bonds are issued by various entities including governments, municipals, and corporate. Often a bond is referred to as a “debt instrument” (The Fool FAQ, n.d.). Interest......
