Describe the disaster
In 1955 the Delaware River flooded due to heavy rain fall. This flooded Trenton New Jersey. This was the biggest catastrophe to ever hit Trenton. The streets of Trenton soon turned to rivers them selves from the massive amount of water that surged over the banks of the Delaware. This caused hundreds of families to evacuate their homes and run form shelter. The damage totals were huge going over $100 million dollars. Remember this is in 1955 that was a tremendous amount of money back then and even now. $500,000 of this was just damage to the roads. I dont think this is including all the flood insurance money that was paid out. This was just one flood just think of all the floods that happen not just in the United States, but in the world. In the weeks before the flood we were having a horrible drought. It was late July early august and temperatures were in the high 90s. Also there was very little rain to ease up the heat and dryness.
