When conflicts arise and opposing sides are out for vengeance, things can get terribly devastating. Conflicts like; war, elections, foreign and domestic policies, and many small-scale situations can turn into chaos. When problems like these get out of control peacemakers take the responsibility to try and settle the opposing argument. Making peace can be attempted with two different approaches, violent and nonviolent. The most rational approach to peacemaking is pacifism or the use of nonviolent tactics and protest, but isn’t always the most common. One of the most well known nonviolent protesters was Mohandas Gandhi. Gandhi’s active nonviolent protest led India to independence. Civil disobedience is another strategy peacemakers use to settle disputes. Civil disobedience is the act of disobeying certain laws or orders applied by the government. Martin Luther King, Jr. was another great peacemaker along with Rosa Parks fighting the Jim Crow laws of their time.
