Sometimes, there is no better way to learn about something than by actually experiencing it first hand. My trip to the Zen Buddhist Sangha taught me more than any text book could ever teach me.
For a girl born and raised in New York, driving to down town Jacksonville, and getting lost while searching for this temple was half the fun. Sooner or later, we arrived at our destination. Once we got inside, we were asked to take our shoes off before entering the meditation hall. When we entered the room, I noticed its beautiful décor. The walls had many different shrines on them and excessive representations of a symbol they called the Ohm symbol. During the question-and-answer segment of the service, I found out what this symbol meant. Once in the meditation hall, we sat in the back in chairs while those who regularly participate in the service sat on the floor on cushions.
