What Is Philosophy?
Philosophy, as defined in the chapter 1 reading is the to love knowledge or wisdom. This is a simplistic definition of philosophy, even though many subdivisions exist within the field of philosophy. The pursuit of knowledge and wisdom is the foundation upon which philosophy is built upon. By asking the right question, and obtaining answers to these questions, the pursuit of knowledge can be obtain and further philosophize his or her field of study.
Philosophy, when applied to any field of knowledge, indicates the principles under which all the subordinate facts relating to that subject are comprehended. So when applied to God and the divine government, philosophy is called theology; when applied to matter, philosophy is called physics; when applied to the study of man, philosophy is called anthropology and psychology, with which connects logic and ethics; when applied to the necessary conceptions and relations by which philosophy is possible, is called metaphysics.
