The novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is a story of racial discrimination, family identity and friendship. Amir, an Afghan man living in San Francisco, California is the main protagonist in the novel. The story reflects on Amirs childhood in Afghanistan and the terrible sin he committed against Hassan, influenced by his cultural and social identity and his relation with his father. This essay will further analyse the novel on the bases of issues mentioned above.
The concept of friendship and loyalty is described in the novel by the presentation of Hassan. The relation between Hassan and Amir is no more than a servant and a boss, but still Hassan accepts Amir as his friend. Baba never called Ali as a friend so as Amir who never called Hassan as a friend. They played together and grew up together. It was because, for Amir and Baba the history and generation was more important than friendship.
