Their biosocial development or physical growth and changes, slow slightly in this stage but there are great changes in their motor skills, which is affected by genetic, nutritional, and health factors. Specific parts of the brain begin to connect and allow more coordination of the left and right side of the brain. The cognitive development, mental processes and ability to learn, goes through many changes during this period. They are developing their own ideas and theories about their world. This is also the time when their language and ability to adapt to their social setting is rapidly developing. Children learn by participating in various experiences and activities. Psychosocial development or changes in emotions, temperament and social skills are developing and evolving. Children show the beginnings of self-concept and their ability to regulate their emotions.
