William Blake was essentially a poet who in a very simple way, dealt with profound and disturbing human issues. Through the poems The Tyger, The Sick Rose and London, Blake’s details of destruction and despair are driven by tension, experience and power. These poems best reflect Blake’s own battles with experience, they are thoughts not merely of his high mindedness but of rather of a man struggling to come to a real understanding of two concepts; innocence and experience. He is fighting to recognize the two concepts and the complicated relationship. These poems are developed from that struggle and it is conflict and friction that makes most of their passion. Because of this passion, Blake’s association to his own material is often complex and intricate. Blake’s poems are distinct for long, flowing lines and vicious energy, combined with clearness and lyric softness.
