Johnny Tremain Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Johnny Tremain is a very appealing historical fiction book about Boston in revolt during the Revolutionary war. This incredible book was written by Esther Forbes in 1943, about two hundred years after the war. This book is very historically accurate and one of the only made up characters is the main one, Johnny Tremain. Ester Forbes does a great job of intertwining him with both fictional characters and authentic ones. In this book, Johnny Tremain, the main character is an apprentice silversmith. At the beginning he was the best of the best, but then he has a tragic accident. While Johnny was making a sugar basin (On Sunday, which is breaking Sabbath) for John Hancock, Dove, another apprentice gives Johnny a cracked crucible which breaks under the intense heat. Johnny then drops the crucible and accidentally sticks his hand into molten silver while he tries to get back up, which then sticks his palm to his thumb. This means that he can no longer be a silversmith and he has to find a new job. After many months of looking for a job, he finally settles at the Boston Observer......
