Zimbabwes per capita GDP has fallen annually by 10 percent, while HIV infection rates have climbed to nearly 30 percent. Life expectancy has dropped from 60 to 40 years, while annual inflation has increased from 40 to 116 percent. Corruption has become blatant, (Rotberg Failed States in a World of Terror). Inflation is a major conflict in Zimbabwe right now. Since 1999, the national economy has contracted by as much as 35%; inflation vaulted over 7,634.8% (year on year) in July 2007; and there have been persistent shortages of foreign exchange, fuel, and food, (United States). Although inflation started in 1997 in Zimbabwe, it is still a major problem today because many people are now poor and homeless. Because of inflation, there are now many problems in Zimbabwe.
