Australians In Vietnam Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Vietnam War was not like any other as there was no battlefront as such, instead fighting was sneakier and guerrilla warfare wasn’t uncommon. The enemy, members of the Vietcong, the National Liberation Front and the North Vietnamese Army, could not be recognised as they blended in with the civilian population. The Vietcong divided into three units; village guerrilla units, regular soldiers who were sent away and provincial mobile units, these soldiers were recruited from the guerrilla units. All Vietnamese soldiers were highly skilled in guerrilla warfare. North Vietnam was supported by China, Cambodia, Laos and the USSR – Communist. Whereas, South Vietnam was backed by the United States, Britain and Australia – Capitalist. Support came in a form of supplying weapons and soldiers in order to fight the terrors of communism. Where the War was Fought The North Vietnamese and the Vietcong had the obvious home-court advantage, knowing both the land and weather very well. While the Aussie troops had difficulty adjusting to the tropical climates and varied land conditions.......
