Cystic Fibrosis is a progressive lung disease that results in the decline of lung function. Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is an inheritable disease that affects the bodys ability to produce efficient mucous. The affect of the disease causes the mucous throughout the body to be very thick and sticky, making it difficult for individuals to breath; swallow and certain organs unable to function properly (Cystic Fibrosis, 2003; HealingWell.com, 2007). According to the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (2007), roughly 30,000 Americans live with Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis does not discriminate against sex; both males and females can inherit the disorder. Although the disease can affect people from all races, it is most prevalent amongst Caucasians whose ancestors came from northern Europe (National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, 2007).
