‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ is not only about growing up, its also about courage to what extent do you agree this and how does the composer deliver this? Harper Lee’s ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ is an intricate lacework that analyses the differently patterned personas that fashion the Maycomb Society. Lee explores every stitch of the Maycomb Society through the eyes of a six-year-old child which brings to the table issues of growing up, prejudices, courage and education. These themes are shown to the audience through Lee’s divisive use of techniques, being not only first person reflective narration but also through characterisation, a division in the novel, descriptive language, symbolism, anecdotes. Through the first person reflective narration of ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’, the audience is able to fully absorb the settings and issues Maycomb and its people are living with in this 1930 time period in order to grasp the message of the novel.
