Imagine if you will, a high school boys basketball team. In three months time, they have played 13 games. Out of those 13, they have only lost two. These young men have worked hard to achieve this record and now their hard work is about to pay off they are just one win away from the playoffs. Weve never been there, says Desi Rotenberg a player on the varsity team, so it would be really great if we could get there (Stokols, 2008). However, even if they continue to win, they may not be able to get to the championship because one of the tournament games is set for a Saturday afternoon. Why is this unusual? These students are Jewish, and their religious observance of the Sabbath will not allow them to travel for the game. Now these young men and their coach are being forced to choose: play, and possibly win a championship, or pray and forfeit the game.
