Kate Chopin's "Story of an Hour", tells the story of a woman trapped in a repressive marriage, who is desperate to escape. She is given that chance, quite by accident, and the story tells of the hour in which this freedom is given her. In the story “The Storm”, Kate Chopin plots a situation in which two people surrender to their physical needs. The title “The Storm” is an obvious reference to the storm outside, but more importantly to the love affair that takes place between Calixta and her friend Alcee. In both the stories, the author focuses on the aspects of freedom and independence. In both the stories “Story of an Hour” and “The Storm” the husbands Brendly Mallard and Bibinot are unaware and clueless to the fact that their wives are unhappy with their lives and moreover, they both love their wives. For example in the story of an hour, it is evident from passage when she states that she loved him ‘sometimes’. But that did not mean that he was a harsh man.
