Abstract In this essay the author is looking at the key issues of leadership, and the leadership role in the well known company Ryanair - the biggest low cost air company in Europe. These paper exams the role of the leadership in organisation, looking from modernist and postmodernist perspectives applied to Ryanair and giving examples from case study. Role of leadership in organisations There are many definitions to describe what a leader when defining leadership is. The most common words explaining it are guiding, influencing, directing and the ability to lead. Maxwell (1999) defines leadership as an ability of the leader to influence others - both those who would consider themselves as followers, and those outside that circle.
