Frequent Shopper Card Programs and Their Use Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Within the past decade a plethora of retailers have devised an ingenious way to attract and maintain loyal customer bases. This plan called for cards embedded with magnetic strips or barcodes to be given to as many consumers as would fill out their information applications. Throughout the store signs notify customers that they could receive a discount on certain products when they used their shopper card. To make the experience easier, stores handed out cards that were small enough to fit onto key-chains. Stores could also send out weekly mailers and include special sales exclusive to those who use their frequent shopper cards; and each register attendant that works for a store is required to recommend the frequent shopper card if the consumer does not produce one. Frequent shopper cards were not designed as merely a way to attract consumers to look for discounts the cards made them eligible for but rather a detailed list of buying trends invaluable to the company and its suppliers.
