A Vietnam War Veteran, a school teacher, a loving husband, and a caring father. Reuben has one of the most important, if not; most important roles in the novel Pay It Forward. His roles are significant, but powerful. He is a school teacher to a young boy, Trevor McKinney who is inspired by him to change the world in a unique and creative way. Reuben also has a strong impact on Trevor’s mother, Arlene McKinney, where he realizes that he has a chance to live a no longer lonely life. The introduction of Reuben into the novel is presented as a flashback, where he introduces the world change project that inspires Trevor to come up with his unparalleled plan to change the world. Perhaps the most important part that Reuben plays in the novel is when he spreads Pay It Forward globally over Television, and sums up Trevor McKinney’s short life. Low self-esteem is obviously a factor in Reuben’s life due to his injuries, implemented to him from the war in Vietnam. He believes he is unacceptable to society and has a pet peeve of people openly being too acceptant to his evidently scared up......
