Differentiating the Cultural Construction of Gender among Cultures
Is the current upbringing in American society changing the roles of our gender culture and are different cultures following the footsteps of Americans? In the American culture I find that the gender roles are now changing due to more women being vocal, educated, and becoming independent. I found this topic to be in my opinion, interesting because in American society today roles are changing for males and females. I chose to focus my paper on the cultural construction of gender and how we are changing in society today and how our culture is now changing that representation. What is culture? E.B. Tylor, a cultural anthropologist, defines culture in brief as being a learned, shared, largely responsible for group-level differences, and necessary to make individuals into completer persons (Peoples & Bailey 2006).
