The researches used data from the Wages and Wage Earners data set to show the similarities between males and females and how the earnings differ in the sample population. The data set from Wages and Wage Earners justified the assumption of the initial hypothesis that married women earn less money than the rest of the workforce (2005). However, while the data supported this theory, the literary research was less than forthcoming when considering the information retrieved. Most articles claimed the gender gap in pay was decreasing and some articles claimed the gender gap does not exist.
