Anthem by Ayn Rand Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In the novel Anthem, written by Ayn Rand, a born and raised collectivist, collectivism is shown to be a vividly bitter society. As Ayn rand moved to the United States fleeing from collectivism, she realized the power that the individual holds. She realized people can do well and get credit for their good other than to make the society better as a whole. She realized that she is a person herself, and she has her own feelings and own desires, and reflects that through Anthem. “If the collective manages to accomplish something great like land on the moon, every individual is given equal credit. If a nation goes to war, everyone is to blame” (Importance of Philosophy). In a collectivist society, an individual is not known as being his own one person, but as part of a whole group of the same person. Collectivism is the way of life that results with no progress.
