Critical Observation Humans are social beings and they interact and create many experiences for themselves. Though they are very different, every person is innately alike and can only be completely understood when dealing within the framework of their culture, ethnicity, and gender identity (Lahey, 2007). All these components produce a unique behavior, or an open action, that can be directly observed by others. Human behavior is not purposeless, because the behavior is tailored to fulfill a need. These actions can be productive or destructive to the person generating them depending on how they are used. Goals of psychology, or the science of behavior and mental processes, are to describe, to predict, to understand and to influence these mannerisms (Psychland Website, 2007). Pregnancy in women causes particular behaviors to emerge when their bodies go through the production of a baby. When these actions are observed by an outside party, research methods are used to examine, comprehend, and draw conclusions from those behaviors.
