One of the definitions for profiling is a formal summary or analysis or data, often in the form of a graph or table, representing distinctive features or characteristics. Racism is defined as relating to or based on race. The significance is when we put the two words together to produce what is well known in law enforcement as racial profiling. In todays society, racial profiling is better known as biased-based policing. Dempsey and Forst (2007) infer that racial profiling, [is] the term commonly used for bias-based policing, is generally defined as any police-initiated activity that relies on a persons race or ethnic background rather than on a behavior as a basis for identifying that individual as being involved in a criminal activity (P. 212).
