Q. Describe an idea (or ideas) in the text that you found interesting. Explain why you found this idea (or ideas) interesting. An idea in Harper Lee¡¯s ¡®To Kill a Mocking bird¡¯ that I found interesting is courage. This novel is set in the 1930¡¯s in the Southern US, Alabama, and is about a lawyer named Atticus who defends a black man in a racist town. The story is told through the eyes of Atticus¡¯s daughter, Scout, a nine year old girl living in a prejudice town called ¡°Maycomb¡±. Courage is one of the many themes displayed throughout the novel by a few characters. I found courage interesting when I saw Atticus, the protagonist, displaying this idea from the very beginning of the novel. Atticus had been appointed to defend a black man named Tom Robinson who was falsely accused of raping a white woman called Mayella Ewell. Although Atticus knows that he and his mother-less children would be subjected to danger, and that no one would forgive him for believing in a black man¡¯s word rather than the white man¡¯s, he still sticks by the case.
