World trade has its benefits and costs, but overall, competing in global markets is not good for America. Although many times labor, can be less expensive or supplies more plentiful, there are many disadvantages and risks involved. There are many ways to get involved in the global market such as licensing, exporting, franchising, contract manufacturing, and joint ventures. Each has some benefit, but in the long run, they are not good for America or for American businesses.
Globalization Defined
Globalization is the exchange of goods and services across national borders that enable a nation to produce what it is most capable of producing and to buy what it needs from others with a mutual exchange. The uninterrupted flow of capital gives countries access to foreign investments, according to Nickels, McHugh and McHugh (2008, p. 60-61).
