1. What is the summary of the film/book? The popular film version of The Wizard of Oz was adapted from the 1900 childrens novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz written by L. Frank Baum. The film was directed by Victor Fleming and released on the 25th of August 1939 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The films protagonist is Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland), a 12-year old orphan. She and her dog, Toto, live with her Aunt Em (Clara Blandick) and Uncle Henry (Charlie Grapewin) on a farm in Kansas. One day as a tornado approaches, Dorothy gets knocked unconscious by an imploding window and enters a dream world. In Dorothys dream, the twister carries Toto and her Somewhere Over the Rainbow (Arlen and Harburg, 1939) to the Land of Oz. Dorothy soon embarks on an exciting journey along the yellow brick road. With Toto at her side, she travels from Munchkin Land to The Emerald City; hopeful that its resident, The Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz (Frank Morgan), can help them return to her family and farm back in Kansas. Along the way Dorothy befriends a Scarecrow (Ray Bolger), a Tin Man (Jack Haley)......
