Children and Health Services Synopsis This issue of uninsured children has become a nation wide dilemma and concern. Many factors related to race/ethnicity, age, health status of the child, and the socioeconomic characteristics of the family, have added to the problem. After researching the subject, it is clear that most uninsured families mostly rely on emergency room visits for their primary source of medical care. Many children go without health care for acute health conditions such as asthma, and ear and throat infections (L.A. Public Health 2006). The number of uninsured children in the United States continues to grow at a rapid rate. Stakeholders fear that programs aimed at reaching these populations have only scratched at the surface of the problem. Due to fear of immigration issues by their parents, harder to reach uninsured children from immigrant families are not being served.
