Character Analysis: Ursula, Cien Anos de Soledad (100 Years of Solitude), Gabriel Garcia Marquez Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
The character Úrsula has arguably the most important function in Cien Años de Soledad. One of the founders of Macondo and matriarch of the Buendía family, she influences many and is integral to the novel, featuring in 17 of the 20 chapters. There are, however, conflicting elements of her character that, while essential in maintaining the family and household, simultaneously contribute to the Buendía misery. Úrsula dedicates her life to the running of the Buendía home and the continuation of the familial line.
