The Unity of Hinduism Hinduism is a religion consisting of a set of beliefs and traditions that have evolved into various facets over many millennia. Hinduism is not believed by some to have originated on the continent of India, but rather in the Indo-European tribes deemed to be from the pampas of Russia. This theory is commonly referred to as the Aryan Invasion Theory. The Hindu religion is not a simple one boasting one version of God, but a complex one proclaiming 330 million different deities. Followers of Hinduism believe the Absolute Reality has numerous faces. Some of the most popular forms of the Absolute Reality are Saktas, Saivites, and Vaishnavites. Those Hindu’s following the Saktas path worship a “Mother Goddess” (Living Religions 2005). Having been worshipped in both singular and plural form, Saktas is usually associated with the worship of nature, such as stones and trees.
