When you look in the mirror, do you feel good about yourself? Are you satisfied with your body? Do you wish you could alter your body to make it thinner, taller, or more muscular? According to a survey in USA weekend, two out of every five teens and young adults said that they would feel better about themselves if they lost weight or bulked up. (Maynard, Cindy) The same survey concluded that seven out of ten young adults said that they didnt feel satisfied with their looks. The media plays a big role in the high number of people having negative body images. We are constantly being exposed to Barbie-doll looking girls who are tall, skinny, and large-breasted; and strong, muscular, bulky guys. Most of the models and actors or actresses we see are not realistic, although we are constantly trying to look like them. These images overpower the media often effecting the way young adults present themselves, convincing us to buy the same clothes and use the same diet methods/products as they do.
