The Sahara Desert is translated into The Great Desert. It is the worlds largest desert. The land stretches from the outskirts of the Atlantic Ocean including parts of the Mediterranean Sea. From north to south the Sahara is between 800 and 1,200 miles and is at least 3,000 miles from east to west (1). The span of 3,500,000 square miles covers most of northern Africa. The desert itself is slightly smaller then the continent of the United States, as well as it being larger then Australia. The Sahara Desert has history that piles up from as much as three million years ago. Ever since the Ice Age, the Sahara Desert has been much more of a wetter place. Prior to the Ice Age there were a couple thousand known people that lived in the desert.
With its incredible and extremely hot temperatures, the Sahara Desert is one place you would think people would not want to locate themselves at. The Sahara Desert has one of the lowest population densities on earth one person per square mile. It would be obviously where to find the larger groups of people around the Sahara desert......
