Childhood - Dorothy Livesays Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Childhood is only defined as the period of being a child, but when we see a child we see their freedom and happiness. Childhood is a period where we live in the moment, time and money is no element in how we live. As we become teenagers and adultswe see the significance of this time, and we begin to yearn for it. In the poem "Children's Camp" by Dorothy Livesay she refers to childhood as "safe," remembering it as a time without hardship. On the other hand, in the poem "Childhood is the Kingdom Where Nobody Dies" by Edna St. Vincent Millay childhood is seen as a time with hardship occurring; only not being understood or life altering. Both authors wish for freedoms brought by childhood, they both saw itas a time of unconditional happiness. In the beginning of Dorothy Livesays poem a safe place is described in the setting of a "cool island". The island is untouchable to any negatives throughout the world; it is a place of freedom and rejoices. This island is a place of childhood.
