Immortal Beloved: Accurate Representation of Beethoven? Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The movie Immortal Beloved portrays Beethoven as a brilliant madman. His compositions made him well known throughout Europe. His personal life, however, was far from successful. The movie begins at Beethoven’s death. His personal assistant and secretary, Anton Schindler, finds a note endowing all of Beethoven’s estate to one known as his “Immortal Beloved”. This enrages Beethoven’s brother who was under the impression that it was to be his. The movie is a search through Beethoven’s life and love affairs in order to find his “Immortal Beloved”. The people whom Schindler encounters and interviews paint an elaborate picture of Beethoven’s life, from which the plot of the movie is built. Finding the one woman who was the “Immortal Beloved” was a difficult task, due to the fact that Beethoven had many lovers. He was seen as a “womanizer” in many respects. The movie represents this by showing his antics with several women. He also was erratic and had a raging temper. At one point in the movie, he is seen throwing furniture out of a hotel room window.
