In the novel The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald teaches us about a man named Jay Gatsby, who he is, why he did what he did, and why he ended up the way he did. Gatsby can be seen by some as a symbol that represents American society in the 20s. Ethos, pathos, and logos are the methods brought into play by the author that use the characters to tell about Gatsbys life in a way that appeals to many senses of the human psyche and that are meant to agitate some of the more complex parts of the readers mind. The story is told from a young man named Nicks point of view and whose ideas and beliefs about Gatsby play a major role in the book. Nick is not the only character Fitzgerald uses to convey ideas about Gatsby to the reader though. He also uses secondary but still vital characters such as Daisy, Tom, and Jordan to add to the readers view of Jay Gatsby.
