Life of Hypatia of Alexandria Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Hypatia’s life it was filled with a passion for knowledge. She was known as the earliest woman mathematician who also taught philosophy and astronomy. She was born in Alexandria, Egypt; the year she was born is generally thought to be 370AD, although some scholars argue that she was born at an earlier date around 350AD. Her father Theon was considered one of the most educated men in Alexandria, Egypt. She was taught by her father who was known as the last mathematician associated with the Museum of Alexandria. Her father raised her in a world of education. The city of Alexandria was known as the center of scholarly attainment in science. Throughout her childhood, Hypatia and her father Theon formed a strong bond as he taught her his own knowledge and shared his passion in the search for answers to the unknown. As she grew older, she developed an interest and enthusiasm for mathematics and the sciences. Her studies included astronomy, astrology and mathematics.
