A queen is commonly defined as a female ruler of an independent state, specifically one who inherits the position by right of birth. (Ask Oxford) A queen may also inherit her title by marrying a king, as did the Queen of France. Marie Antoinette is very well known for her frivolous behavior, what most people do not recognize is that she was one of the most beautiful, powerful and misunderstood women of the 18th century. Marie Antoinette was born on November 02nd, 1775 in Vienna, Austria. She was born the eighth surviving daughter of fifteen children to Empress Maria Teresa and Holy Roman Emperor Francis Stephen I. (Fraser p 5) She was the youngest and favorite daughter and she was brought up believing her destiny was to become the queen of France. The marriage between young Dauphin Louis the XIV of France and Crown Princess of Austria Marie was an arranged marriage between the two countries. This formed the Franco-Austrian alliance, which was not so popular with the people of France. She traveled two and a half weeks to arrive in Versailles, France where she would meet......
