CPI is a measurement of the price of a fixed basket of goods. This is a simpler measurement to calculate instead of attempting to measure the prices of all goods. Consumer price indexes exist for two population groups (1) for urban consumers, approximately 80% of the United States population, the urban CPI, and (2) for urban wage earners and clerical workers, about 32% of the United States population, the wage-earner CPI (Colander, 2004)......
