Introduction
Most of the time when someone thinks of the field of psychology they automatically think first and perhaps only of the men who greatly influenced this vast field of Science. Well known and established men like Erik Erikson, Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud and Wilhelm Wundt are usually the ones who spring to mind first. Most of these men are so well known and their theories studied so much that now days one can even find t-shirts quoting them. While these men do deserve their just due, it must be known that they did not singlehandedly bring about the field of psychology.
What many people may not know or realize is that there were also many women who made their mark on the history and creation of psychology. Women like Karen Horney, Melanie Klein, Letta Stetter Holingworth and Anna Freud struggled with the limited education and freedoms that they were allowed and ultimately beat the odds in a field and a time that was for the most part dominated by men. Unfortunately many of their contributions are often overlooked and severely underrated.
