Media violence has been said to be the cause of aggressive behavior in children, desensitize children to the effects of violence, and give the impression that the world is more dangerous than it really is. Sometimes children do not even see a problem with violence, and violence can even be hazardous to a child’s health, as reported by American medical doctors, psychiatrists, and psychologists. American media is considered to be the most violent in the world. In fact, eighty percent of American television shows contain some sort of violence. Psychological research has shown three major effects of children watching television programs that contain violence. Children may become less empathetic to the pain and suffering of others, may become more fearful of the world and their surroundings, and may be more likely to behave in aggressive or harmful ways towards others. Children often behave differently after they have been watching violent programs on television.
