Testing for a Rate in Enzyme Reactivity with Catalase decomposing Hydrogen Peroxide with Time as a Variable Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Abstract The hypothesis of this experiment was that the enzyme reactivity would plateau over time as the substrates are consumed entirely. The purpose of the experiment was to determine the rate of reactivity in the enzyme over varying reaction times to determine if there was a correlation between time and the rate of substrate consumption. The experimental chemicals used to determine the correlation were Catalase, the enzyme, and Hydrogen Peroxide, the substrate. The products of the reaction were H2O and O2. Time was used as the experimenter variable. The control group had no enzymes added to the solution. Catalase was added to the experimental group. To find how much of H2O2 was left, KMnO4 was added to the solution till the color changed. The results did not support the hypothesis as the rate of enzyme reactivity did not show any change due to time. The results of this experimental group did not support the class average. The class average showed a plateau in the rate of decomposition, which supported the hypothesis. Introduction Most enzymes are proteins in their quatern......
