There are many great American men in our world today. Many people that make spectacular improvements or inventions that completely change the face of history. Some are known very well and yet others have never been heard of. There is one very important American that many people are not aware of that made some remarkable strides to get us to the place we are now. Henry Laurens Dawes is that man. He did some immense things for us, which whether realized or not has changed the nation we have become.
Henry Laurens Dawes was born October 30, 1816. He was not like other boys his age, he had ambition. Dawes desired to obtain an education, and though like most other farmers, he had to struggle to obtain it. He eventually conquered his dream and was able to enter Yale College in 1835 where he graduated with credible standing in 1839. Upon graduation, he went to Greenfield, Massachusetts where he studied law while also editing the Greenfield Gazette.
