Voting History Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Have people like me always been able to vote? If so what were their feeling about voting? These are some of the questions that went through my mind as I was getting ready to cast my vote on November 4, 2008. This is a very historic election and I am honored that as a United States citizen that I have a voice in the government. But, if this had been 40 years ago an eighteen year old male would not have been able to vote. Our country has also had its share of voting controversy, and over the years we have grown immensely in our acceptance of other people. Voting rights have had many changes over the years but the 26th amendment has had the greatest effect on my generation and many generations before my own. Through the first two World Wars the ages for selective laws were 21-36 year olds; it was not until 1951 that the law was amended for 18-25 year olds (Emme). The Vietnam War is the strongest reason for the 26th amendments appearance. During the war the 18 year olds were being sent overseas to fight and some died as a result. This sparked the protesting of millions and the slogan ......
