Introduction
The article that I chose to analyze is from the New York Times dated April 30, 2008. In this research study many questions were purposed and just as many went unanswered. The purpose of the study was to see if misdemeanor marijuana arrests were solely based on the demographics of it offenders. This has affected mainly people of African and Latino descent.
In this study it is claimed that more blacks and Latinos in the city of New York are being arrested for having a small amount of marijuana. According to the study that was conducted by a Queens College sociology professor, between 1988 and 1997 there were 374,900 offenders arrested for the possession of marijuana, however, many of these people had never been arrested before, and their most serious crime was being arrested for the lowest level misdemeanor marijuana offense.
