How does Miller build up Dramatic tension in A View from the Bridge? Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

‘A View from the Bridge’ is a play set in 1940’s America. It is about a typical Italian Family living in the ‘the slum that faces the bay…’ in one of the most poor areas in America, Red Hook. In the play the main character is Eddie who faces a great dilemma in the play. Catherine his niece is also a major character in the play along with Rodolfo and Marco –Beatrice’s cousins. Miller uses a range of techniques to build up dramatic tension in the play. In this essay I will be discussing how these techniques are put into context t create dramatic tension. These aspects of the play contribute to the build up of dramatic tension leading to the tragedy. The play is ended with a tragedy- Eddie’s death. Tragedy can be described as an event that leads to a great loss or disaster/misfortune. It usually overcomes the main character in a play in his case, Eddie. Tragedy is usually the outcome of the character’s actions.
