Racism. Maya Angelou, who is a black writer, has received a lot of honorary degrees. Now, she is working for American Studies at Wake Forest University. She writes mainly about herself, as well as short stories, articles, and poetry. “What’s Your Name, Girl?” praised as “the mark of the beginning of an era in the minds and hearts of all black men and women” (77), was written by Maya Angelou. In the story, there are four main characters: Mrs. Cullinan, her friend, Miss Glory-the NOTE cook, and Margaret-the maid. Miss Glory was renamed by Mrs. Cullinan and she accepted it ccp but Margaret did not. Being called Mary, Margaret felt insulted because that was racism and she was afraid of being controlled. While the old cook felt comfortable with her renamed Glory, Margaret rebelled against racism by forcing her mistress to call her by the correct name NOTE .
