The Human Genome Project (HGP) was formally begun in October 1990, and was completed 15 years later in 2003. The original goal of the project was to sequence all 20000-25000 genes in human DNA. That is to say, map the entire human genome, and store the information in large data bases so as to provide scientists with the means to research and study hereditary diseases and other DNA related functions and disorders, both in the present and future (HGP Info. 2008). As an international project, biologists, chemists, engineers, computer scientists, mathematicians, and other scientists from some 18 different countries including the U.K., Germany, France and Japan, worked together as a team. Collectively, they plotted out a map that will now enable researchers to find their way through the labyrinth of molecules that define the physical traits of a human being (HGP Info. 2008). Furthermore, the HGP has helped scientists improve tools for data analysis, helped address ethical, legal and moral issues regarding DNA research, and finally major findings from the HGP has created new frontiers of ......
